Gluten Free Soy Free Soy Sauce Substitute

It’s difficult enough finding a gluten free soy sauce, let alone a gluten free soy free soy sauce. One does exist, though. South River Miso makes a gluten free soy free soy sauce substitute from chickpeas, Miso Tamari, chickpea flavor. It is supposed to be so good that they limit your purchase quantity because it takes at least 3 months to make. Their products are unpasteurized, living foods, rich in enzymes and beneficial microorganisms. They start shipping this year on September 15, 2011. I still need to contact them to find out if they avoid cross-contamination, though, as I see they make a barley miso, as well. I’ll call them and update this page when I find out, hopefully today or early next week. Meanwhile, you can make your own gluten free soy free soy sauce substitute. Savory Cherry Sauce – Gluten Free

Rather than using ketchup and other highly processed sauces, you can use fresh fruit to make your own sauces used for toppings like this savory cherry sauce. It is a very creative recipe which you can adjust to meet your tastes. I like to change the seasonings, wine, and type of onion used. However, in a savory cherry sauce, it is best to use a sweet onion such as green (shallots) or even red. Due to chemicals in so many of our condiments, consider adding homemade gluten free sauces to  your gluten free recipes. Continue reading “Savory Cherry Sauce – Gluten Free”

On the 4th of July I had a sweet tooth. Actually, I have had a sweet tooth all week, but not for dessert. I went to the grocery store, hungry, the other day and ended up with a cart full of naturally gluten-free foods, such as gluten-free cocktail onions and raspberry balsamic vinegar. Obviously, not just sweet foods, but tangy, as well. Must be something going on with my diet. Hmmm. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this recipe strawberry spinach salad, as well as the dressing. We did! Gluten Free Plum Sauce

e:Red Gluten Free Plum Sauce - Red

I have been craving Chinese food. What better condiment is there to complement Chinese food than a gluten free plum sauce recipe? A quick plum sauce can be made with plum jam, but this gluten free plum sauce is made from fresh, ripe plums! Generally, one would use red flesh plums as they make a more attractive presentation, but you can use any yellow-fleshed plums if you wish. I used agave nectar/syrup which is said to affect your glycemic levels gradually, rather than fast and all at once like refined sugar, and it is less processed. If you’re making it for kids, skip the red pepper flakes. Plum sauce goes well with chicken, pork, egg rolls, gluten-free potstickers and more. Continue reading “Gluten Free Plum Sauce”

Gluten Free Stove-Top Chicken Potato Casserole

Gluten-free Chicken Potato Casserole

This one dish gluten free casserole is very easy to make! Rather than wait 1 hour in the oven to bake chicken and potatoes, you can cook it on the stove top in 15-20 minutes, depending upon the size of your potatoes. And you can leave the skins on the potatoes if you desire, which speeds up the prep work. I appreciated this recipe because it uses only one pan. To my surprise, as I am not usually one to eat chunks of onion and especially garlic, they turned out so sweet in the dish! I hope this makes your gluten-free dinner meals faster and easier! Gluten Free Teriyaki Sauce Recipe (or Marinade)

Image: Gluten Free Teriyaki Sauce

I needed some gluten free teriyaki sauce and there was none in the house. What’s a girl to do?  I gathered some of the traditional ingredients in teriyaki sauce and added a bit of pineapple juice for some extra nutrients. The base is tamari sauce. It is wonderful that San J makes gluten-free soy sauce, actually tamari sauce, because it contains no gluten. Tamari is a light soy sauce. All tamari sauces are made with more soy beans than regular soy sauce. Soy sauce is made from wheat and soy beans; therefore, those on a gluten free diet use Tamari. [Update: nowadays, there is such a thing as gluten free soy sauce.] Continue reading “Gluten Free Teriyaki Sauce Recipe (or Marinade)”

Gluten Free Onion Ring Sauce Recipe

Gluten Free Onion Rings Sauce

This onion sauce recipe goes along with my gluten free onion rings recipe, though it has other uses, too. If you are looking for a healthier alternative to Outback’s Onion Ring Sauce, then I think you’ll love this recipe. My husband and I did. Many recipes for onion ring dip contains sour cream and/or mayonnaise. In this recipe I use Greek yogurt and it is made without horseradish, yet it is still spicy. I had to cut back on calories somewhere! I started with the dipping sauce. Continue reading “Gluten Free Onion Ring Sauce Recipe”

Fast and Easy Homemade Gluten Free Sweet and Spicy Pickle Recipe – Zero Sodium!

Sweet and Spicy Gluten Free Pickles

I have been wanting to make some homemade pickles, which is something I have never done before, when I saw a bag of mini pickles at Costco the other day. I just had to have them! I created an easy pickle recipe that you can either spice up or not with red pepper flakes to your liking, as well as adjust the sweetness. Since our grandkids were visiting this week I was in a hurry and wanted a fast recipe so I opted to make sliced pickles instead of leaving those adorable little things whole. I hope you enjoy the recipe. Continue reading “Fast and Easy Homemade Gluten Free Sweet and Spicy Pickle Recipe – Zero Sodium!”
