This onion sauce recipe goes along with my gluten free onion rings recipe, though it has other uses, too. If you are looking for a healthier alternative to Outback’s Onion Ring Sauce, then I think you’ll love this recipe. My husband and I did. Many recipes for onion ring dip contains sour cream and/or mayonnaise. In this recipe I use Greek yogurt and it is made without horseradish, yet it is still spicy. I had to cut back on calories somewhere! I started with the dipping sauce.
The next best thing to Outback's onion ring sauce is this version without tomatoes!
Ingredients:
- 6 Tablespoons non-fat FAGE Greek Yogurt
- 1 teaspoon stevia powder
- 2 teaspoons gluten free chipotle hot sauce (I use Bufalo brand.) or hot sauce, to taste
Instructions:
- Whisk all the above ingredients together.
- Serve aside individual portions in tiny bowl or cup; or serve in the middle of an large portion as an appetizer.
Tips
Chilpotle sauce can be found in your local grocery store in the ethnic food isle, near salsa and the like. Ensure you check the label if you are seeking a gluten-free brand.
I like a mild to medium hot sauce. You can always kick it up or down a notch with more or less hot sauce!
This is a sweet sauce. If you desire a not so sweet sauce, lessen the stevia.
