About Carla Spacher

Carla Spacher is the author of Carla’s Gluten Free Recipe Box, a multi-award-winning gluten-free blog. She shares gluten-free recipes and information on living a gluten-free lifestyle. Now semi-retired, Carla was the president of a global gluten-free consulting, marketing, and recipe development firm. She was also a freelance writer, author, and SEO (search engine optimization) specialist. Ms. Spacher has developed gluten-free recipes for such esteemed manufacturers as KitchenAid and Breadman as well as small manufacturers and restaurant owners.

She was Answers.com’s Gluten Free Expert Writer (when they use to have a recipe section), a regularly featured author in Natural Solutions magazine, contributor to Alternative Medicine magazine, and has been mentioned on such websites as Huffington Post US and CA, NEWS10 ABC, KATV ABC, WRCB-TV 3 NBC, KBS12 CBS, KS3324 NBC, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, and Yahoo News, to name a few. She has also provided cooking lessons to a weekly group at Whole Foods Market in Fresno.

Carla has provided services to gluten-free manufacturers in the fields of recipe development, social media, graphic design, blog writing and management, and SEO (search engine optimization).

Mrs. Spacher appeared on KSEE24’s Central Valley Today (local NBC station) in late 2014 to teach the Fresno community how to make gluten free naan/flatbread and homemade Bisquick mix. While she has been invited back several times, she hasn’t been able to fit it into her busy schedule.

She is a member of the National Association of Professional Women, Vitacost Customer Advisory Board, as well as a member of their new Consumer First Community, and formerly on Tom’s of Maine Advisory Panel and The Mills (General Mills) Advisory Panel.

Due to the multiple requests she receives for gluten-free bread baking tips, Carla authored a free ebook, Gluten-Free Bread Baking Defined, which was awarded Best Gluten Free eBook 2014. She hopes to include similar but updated information in her upcoming cookbook.

This site contains a variety of gluten-free recipes from everyday to gourmet. For those who have specific dietary needs, they visit the Recipe Index to discover categories such as dairy-free, soy-free, corn-free, yeast-free, sugar-free, vegan, vegetarian, desserts, and bread, as well as several others.

Via her vast number of website readers and social media followers, she is asked advice on everything from which brands to trust to how to avoid gluten cross-contamination to substitute suggestions. Carla answers questions left in the comment section of each page, personally. It took her over 2 years to figure out why her followers would always ask for a gluten-free recipe that could easily be found online. They trust her recipes. It doesn’t take too many failed recipes to realize that once you find a good source you should stick with it.

She began cooking gluten-free in 2005 when it was suggested that she was borderline gluten-intolerant. Shortly thereafter, she fell off the gluten-free wagon. However, in 2009, knowing that gluten was the cause of so many ailments, she began a gluten-free diet once again. With so many new gluten-free ingredients suddenly available, she got back in the kitchen.

Because the gluten-free diet helped her with her digestive issues as well as allergies, she decided to share a few of her recipes with the world. That is when her former blog followers clamored for more, and Carla’s Gluten Free Recipe Box was born in 2010. Ever since then, she’s been cooking and baking her way to joy.

While she is not diagnosed with celiac disease, she avoids even small amounts of gluten, like those with celiac disease and high gluten intolerance do. Therefore, rest assured the ingredients she suggests are safe for you. (Just be sure to double-check product labels, as some of her recipes on this website date back to 2009. Ingredients often change.)

Carla’s goal is to not only share her knowledge of gluten-free cooking and baking, as well as her gluten intolerance research, but to make living a gluten-free lifestyle easier and appetizing for all. She resides in the lower foothills of Yosemite, north of Fresno, California.

I just tried your New York Style pizza crust this evening and it was a huge hit with the entire family. Your bread recipes are amazing and the dessert recipes I've tried have all been delightful.
