When you have guests you’ll want to make your work as easy as possible the day of the event. Serve something simple, yet elegant. Fondue is something you can prepare ahead of time, allowing time to mingle with your guests. Gluten free fondue also makes a wonderful Valentine’s Day, anniversary, or special date night dinner. I”ve listed several gluten free fondue recipes They truly are my favorite gluten free recipes. Enjoy!
Several Gluten Free Fondue Recipes
The best meal and most fun I have had time and time again is going to my favorite fondue restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area, La Fondue in Saratoga. I once made a very romantic fondue meal, replicating La Fondue’s feast, for my husband on Valentine’s Day, saving about $175, including wine.
The meal included cubed gluten free bread baguettes (Update: I use Schar’s baguettes now) and raw vegetables served with a gluten free cheese fondue sauce. The sauce is made with gluten free beer. For the meat, beef (our fave), chicken and/or shrimp served with several dipping sauces. Then two individual plates of fresh fruit, gluten-free marshmallows, Snickers bars (update: may contain cross-contamination, from what I have read), cream cheese balls, served with a chocolate fondue sauce. And don’t forget your favorite wine or bubbly!
You can either serve the vegetables raw or blanche them in boiling water for a minute or more.
How to Prepare, Serve and Cook the Meat – So fun!
Buy one hot plate (a single electric burner) for two people. If you’re having more people, use at least one for each three people, preferably one per two people. Plug it/them into a nearby outlet, close to your table. You may need an extension cord. Set a grilling pan on top. If you have an electric grill that works best. You can move your table up against a wall. Serve raw meat such as cut up chicken breasts, tender steak and/or shrimp. Allow your guests to cook their own and have dipping sauces such as gluten-free barbecue sauce, gluten-free soy sauce or tamari sauce (such as San-J Tamari Sauce), gluten-free teriyaki sauce horseradish sauce (see Gluten Free Chef Rob’s Horseradish Dipping Sauce Recipe), and hot or spicy gluten free mustard (I use Grey Poupon or French’s Dijon Mustard). Ensure that you add a nice decanter of olive oil for cooking.

Tips
If the chocolate fondue becomes too thick add more whipping cream.
If the cheese fondue becomes too thick add more beer.
Do not add too much meat and shrimp to the table. You do not want it to spoil. You can always add more as needed.
Before dessert, everyone will swear that they cannot eat another bite, but once having one bite of something dipped in the chocolate fondue they will not be able to stop! It happens every time!
