Easy Fat-Free Gluten-Free Marinara Sauce (Smokey and Sugar-Free Options)

I believe in cooking with what you have on hand. That is how this easy gluten free marinara sauce was born. That coupled with the need to throw something together quickly while I tended to other tasks makes this recipe a breeze. Despite all of the shortcuts, this easy marina sauce is flavorful. Add a smokey flavor if desired. The smokey flavor goes well with chicken and pork.

This recipe is available to everyone.

Easy Fat-Free Gluten Free Marinara Sauce (Smokey Option)

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour, 25 minutes

Yield: Makes 6 - 8 servings

A flavorful and easy gluten free marina sauce that takes only a few minutes to throw together. Then, allow it to simmer while you attend more important things.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (15-ounce) can gluten free tomato sauce
  • 1 (6-ounce) can gluten free tomato paste
  • 2-1/2 cups water (may substitute some with cut up whole tomatoes, can or fresh)
  • 4-1/2 tablespoons dried onion (yellow or white)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or sweetener of choice*)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (or 1-1/2 teaspoons brown sugar or sweetener of choice*)
  • 1 teaspoon Wright's Liquid Smoke Mesquite flavor (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Wright's Liquid Smoke Hickory flavor (optional)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (for heat and flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Add all of the above ingredients to a medium-size saucepan. For additional flavor, feel free to add meatballs or fried sausage. Stir and cover with a lid, slightly cocked open, and simmer on medium-low heat for 1 hour 15 minutes or until the onion is tender and can barely be identified in the sauce. Stir occasionally.
  2. If using the smokey options, serve with chicken or pork. Of course, if you add meat, it will no longer be fat-free. Otherwise, serve as you would with any other marinara sauce, with pasta, meatballs, or even on pizza.

Tips

*Stevia, both powdered and liquid, work well as a sugar-free alternative. Use 1/8 teaspoon powdered stevia blend, or to ].https://glutenfreerecipebox.com/gluten-free-product-list/
