Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. Gluten free cake recipes are one the easiest desserts to make. Perhaps you and your loved one have a favorite. I provide you with several links to gluten free cake recipes below. I really wanted to teach you how to make a heart shape cake, info case you didn’t already know how. However, not having any photos of the actual assembling of a heart shaped cake, I thought I would share my illustration and directions instead. I hope some of you find it useful. Have fun baking your cake!

  1. Choose from any of the over 125 Gluten Free Cake Recipes. My favorites are the Gluten Free Chocolate Cake, Gluten Free German Chocolate Cake, Gluten Free Pumpkin Bread, and Gluten Free Boston Cream Pie. My favorite frosting is Gluten Free Chocolate Ganache.
  2. Make the cake using either a 9-inch round and a 9-inch square cake pan, or 8-inch. Use a skewer or something similar to measure the depth of the batter to ensure both cakes turn out equal in height.
  3. If you desire to add a filling to your cake, once cooled completely, refrigerate for at least 2 – 3 hours, preferably overnight. This will make them less delicate, and easier to frost. Then slice in half.
  4. Once the cakes are baked and cooled cut the round cake in half; and using the below illustration as a guide, place cakes in line; then frost. You will need to add additional frosting to the areas that are joined.
How to Assemble a Heart Shaped Cake

Individual Cakes

If you prefer to make a small cake or two mini cakes, using a heart shaped mold, or even a round cake, I suggest any of the cake recipes, but some thoughts are: Gluten Free Cheesecake with Chocolate Ganache, Gluten Free Cheesecake with Sour Cream Frosting, Raw Vegan Gluten Free Cashew Cheesecake, Gluten Free Chocolate Layered Cheesecake (without the mint), and Gluten Free Chocolate Truffle Cake.

Wording and Decoration Ideas:

  • Wording: I love you; I ❤ U; I love you more than cake; Happy Valentine’s Day (surname) Family, Sweetheart, the person’s name; Love; etc.
  • Adding a long strand of pearls around the bottom of the cake.
  • Fondant: Instead of frosting the cake, you can cover it with white or colored gluten free fondant and/or add cut out hearts. You can make roses, etc. Brands of gluten free fondant include Satin Ice which can be purchased online at CakeSupplies4You. It is one of the best tasting fondants around, and they recently reduced their prices. The Cake Boss has been using this brand for 20 years. I just emailed them asking about gluten cross-contamination and will update you here. Last I heard from Wilton, is that their Ready-To-Use Rolled Fondant, 710-2076, contains no gluten, but there is gluten present in the manufacturing plant.
  • Pipe out hearts, and leave them hollow or fill them in.
