Way Better Snacks makes crunchy gluten free tortilla chips (“tortilla chips” used loosely here) from germinated and sprouted whole grains, seeds, and in one flavor, beans; are made from unprocessed ingredients; and are non-GMO (not genetically modified) verified. Spouted grains, seeds and beans are brought back to life, so to say. Their gluten free tortilla chips are high in antioxidants, omega 3’s, and other vital nutrients, low in sodium and saturated fat, are gluten free, dairy free, and vegan, providing with you the nutrition your body deserves.
Rather than explain the benefits of germination and sprouting of grains, seeds and beans, I will allow Way Better Snacks to explain it. Watch the video below and/or read more about sprouting and germination on their website.
When the box of Way Better Snacks arrived it couldn’t have been more perfect timing, as I was in need of a snack. I hadn’t eaten lunch because I was busy. Out of all of the 6 flavors my eyes caught the Sweet Chili flavor, and I opened the bag. I was addicted immediately! Half way through the bag I had to pull in the willpower to stop, once I was full. Literally half a bag was a meal in itself. Since I’m allergic to tomatoes, and that most barbecue chips contain them, my next best bet is chili flavored chips. And these were so darn close to barbecue flavor, as well as sweetness and salt, but with a bit more heat, not much, just a tingle in the back of my throat. Perfect, actually! It is a flavor party in your mouth…sweet, salty, spicy, all in one! Loved them!
In my next snacking mood I reached for the Whole Grain flavor. Wow! They tasted just like corn chips! I miss them so much! I try to avoid GMO, therefore, usually skip the leading brand of corn chips, assuming they contain GMO corn.
I slowly sampled the other flavors. The Black Bean was mild in flavor, not overpowered with beans at all, which I enjoyed.
The Unbeatable Blues, made from blue corn, was not overpowered with corn because of the additional grains and seeds, but are salty, which many of you enjoy. However, my body does do well with much sodium.
Luckily for me, they make Naked Blues-No Salt, which I would enjoy with a low-sodium bean dip, However, I ended up going with guacamole, which was a perfect compliment.
Then there’s the Sweet Potato, very mildly salted, as are most of their chips; a mix of flavors, hard to identify, and just a very tad sweet, barely noticeable. The texture and flavors are really hard to describe. You have the starch of the sweet potatoes and all of those grains and seeds all in one. Pretty good!
