New Gluten Free Products 2013

The last few days I attended the Natural Products Expo West trade show. It is my annual practice to write a few blog posts updating you on new gluten free products, as well as products worth mentioning. Today, I bring you the products that left a long lasting memory. If you are not already familiar with these brands I hope you try them. They not only include the best known brands in the gluten free market, but the best tasting. I hope you find this helpful.

Kinnikinnick

Their gluten free bread is not exactly new, but their recipe definitely is. Last July they discontinued a few products and replaced them with new version. I was fortunate in being able to sample their Soft White Gluten Free Bread at Expo West, and it was wonderful! It is just as good, and just as soft as Rudi’s bread…something you’d be proud to serve your gluten friends and family.

The following are items they discontinued last summer and their new replacements:

Discontinued Items Suggested Replacement
White Sandwich Bread Soft White Bread
Raisin Tapioca Rice Bread Soft White Bread, Tapioca Rice Bread
Yeast Free Tapioca Bread Candadi Yeast Free Multigrain Rice Bread
Robins Honey Brown Rice Bread Sunflower Flax Rice Bread (no egg bread)
Brown Sandwich Bread Soft Multigrain Bread
Many Wonder Multigrain Rice Bread Soft Multigrain Bread

Rudi’s Gluten Free Bakery

Rudi’s carries both gluten and gluten free baked goods. Their gluten free baked goods are made in a gluten free facility, and are not only some of the best gluten free baked goods I have tasted, but all natural. They were serving their gluten free tortillas and whole grain bread as grilled cheese sandwiches and PB&J (peanut butter and jelly) sandwiches. Oh my! The bread tasted like homemade gluten bread. It was light in texture very much like gluten white bread. Their tortillas were very good,, as well. They are soft, similar to gluten tortillas, but mainly once cooked or warmed. You may recall my review and giveaway from last year.

Udi’s

What’s new in the Udi’s gluten free product line? Plenty! Check out the links below for full descriptions. I was able to to taste their tortillas, and they are amazing! Their new products coming soon are:

Soft Flour Tortillas, Active Granola Clusters, Soft and Chewy Granola Bars, 3 New Cookie Varieties, and Ancient Grain Crisps.

    1. Hi Carol,

    2. Hi Carla,
I am thrilled that you replied!

I am in search of a wonderful gluten-free brownie recipe, low in fat also. Does any such recipe exist?
Thank you so much for your great work and dedication!

      1. Hi Carol,

Low-in fat brownies? Hmmm. Now that would be a challenge! Brownies are known for their fat content. That is what makes them moist and soft. Though sugar is good for moisture and a chewiness, it is not the healthiest substitute for fat. Chocolate is naturally high in fat, but if you use dark chocolate with a high percentage of cocoa, you’ll be saving some fat calories there. You want to consider using carob, and it does not contain any caffeine or theobromine, like chocolate. Both caffeine and theobromine are stimulants. I don’t know about you, but with age, I can no longer have chocolate late at night if I want a good night’s sleep.

Meanwhile, I have listed my existing gluten-free brownie recipes below. I hope you find something you can alter or enjoy as is.

You will find several gluten-free brownie recipes on my blog. My favorite is the one that calls for my gluten-free all-purpose flour: http://glutenfreerecipebox.com/gluten-free-dairy-free-brownies/. It is also dairy-free.

The first gluten-free brownie recipe I ever made seems to be popular though: http://glutenfreerecipebox.com/gluten-free-brownie-recipe-brown-rice-syrup/. It’s a healthy version and calls for brown rice syrup.

The one I am looking forward to trying is http://glutenfreerecipebox.com/gluten-free-brownies-layered/ by Ricki Heller. They are sugar-free, egg-free, and dairy-free!

        I hope this helps!

      2. Hi again, CJ!

I have been thinking about your request and right before I developed my new chewy brownie-like cookies, I thought of you. I made them free of butter, oil, and even egg yolk. With only 1/2 gram of fat per tablespoon of cocoa powder, they’re lowest fat dessert you’ll get close a brownie. And when they’re warm, they taste like a chewy brownie! I think you’re going to love them, and they’re so easy to make. Here’s the recipe link: http://glutenfreerecipebox.com/easy-gluten-free-chocolate-cookies/

        Enjoy!

  1. Good to know that Kinnikinnick changed their recipe! I tried their white sandwich bread a couple years ago and it was so dry and crumbly I ended up making breadcrumbs out of it. Totally agree on your Rudi’s review – that is my favorite new brand, bonus that I can buy it in my regular grocery store!
