Easy Tender Country-Style Pork Ribs

Growing up, nothing beat the comfort of my mother’s country-style pork ribs—a recipe that still holds a special place in my heart. She swore by boneless ribs, though bone-in works just as beautifully, and her simple, budget-friendly tenderizing trick never fails to deliver melt-in-your-mouth perfection. In this post, I’m sharing her classic homemade barbecue sauce, plus my own tomato-free twist—both gluten-free and packed with flavor you’ll want to slather on everything.

Country-Style Pork Ribs

An easy recipe using boneless or bone-in country-style pork ribs, make fall-off-the-bone tender ribs.

Cuisine American, Southern

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 2 hours 5 minutes
Total Time 2 hours 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 pounds boneless country-style pork ribs (or more of bone-in)
  • gluten free barbecue sauce of your choosing (see Notes section for Carla's Mom's recipe (or)
  • Carla's homemade honey chipotle sauce (see Notes section for recipe)

Instructions

  1. Remove excess fat from ribs by cutting them into pieces; add to a large pot and barely cover with water; bring to a boil; simmer for approximately 2 hours..

  2. Prior to the completion of the simmering process, preheat the oven to low broil, for about 15 minutes.

  3. When the ribs have finished simmering, drain the broth from the pot. (Freeze for an upcoming soup or gravy recipe, if desired.)

  4. Place the ribs on a broiling pan on baking sheet and slather with your sauce of choice.

  5. Place 6-inches from beneath the broiler element with oven door closed until it is charred to your liking. You can also increase the temperature to high broiler but don't leave it unattended as it will burn easily. Keep a close eye on it.

  6. Serve with your favorite potato/rice/pasta side dish and a salad or vegetables.

Tips

For Homemade Barbecue Sauce: Saute 1/4 cup chopped yellow or sweet onion in a small saucepan. Add and combine 1 small can of tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or more to your liking) and a splash of white distilled vinegar. Sauté for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.

For Honey Chipotle Sauce:

Whisk together 1/4 cup honey with 1 teaspoon gluten free chipotle sauce (I use Bufalo brand).
