Rudi’s Gluten Free Tortillas Review and Giveaway

Since many of my readers, and myself, have been on the search for good gluten free tortillas, I approached Rudi’s Gluten Free Bakery for some samples for a review and giveaway. As many of you know I recently created a wonderful soft gluten free tortilla recipe, but to get it soft you must use Expandex, and I’d really prefer not to use any modified ingredients. With that in mind, Rudi’s was one of my first choices because they use natural ingredients.

Let me first introduce you to Rudi’s gluten free tortillas:

Plain Tortillas

Spinach Tortillas

Fiesta Tortillas

Ingredients: Whole Grain Flours (Sorghum, Brown Rice, Corn, Amaranth, Quinoa, Millet, Teff), Corn Starch, Tapioca Flour, Rice Flour, Water, Canola Oil*, Xantham Gum, Evaporated Cane Juice, Cultured Dextrose and Maltodextrin, Salt, Baking Powder (Monocalcium Phosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Corn Starch), Guar Gum, Malic Acid, Red Bell Pepper Powder, Jalapeno Powder, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Carrot Granules, Parsley Flakes, Apple Cider Vinegar, Active Dry Yeast

My Review

On first inspection, they appeared to be similar to rice tortillas in texture, but much thinner and more pliable. Once heated up in the microwave they softened up quite a bit. You can roll them, re-roll them, and never crack or break.

You can use them stuffed with your favorite filling and heated in the microwave; for enchiladas (love it!) and burritos (heat the tortillas in a skillet); cold wraps (provides a great chewy texture at room temperature, though you can heat them); or just plain right out of the bag!

Flavors: The Plain, is just that. They do not take any flavor away from the ingredients that you use to stuff them. The Spinach does not give off a spinach flavor, yet supplies the health benefits of the spinach. The Fiesta has a bit of jalapeno powder, therefore, are just a slight spicy. I love a nice little kick! It’s not very spicy, just a tiny bit, just enough, though. You may not notice it when the tortilla is stuffed. I really liked them the best. Of course, each flavor will serve their purpose. What will you use them for?

I was a taco bell bean burrito fan, addicted really and it took all most three years before I could pass a taco bell without sobbing. my husband and I both tried endlessly to make tortillas before giving up. I haven’t found them here in alaska yet but I look weekly. to hold a bean burrito again and I know that sounds silly to those who don’t understand being ripped of favorite foods but I love tortillas.   138. Since a stem cell transplant 5 years ago I have developed some allergies and intolerance’s…..gluten being one of them. It took a while to pin point my gastrointestinal discomfort and sometimes it is depressing not being able to enjoy foods……I like to eat………but there are quite a few amazing products out there for convenience….Rudi’s is one of them.

  176. I am a new mom to a beautiful 2 month old baby girl- Brooke. Brooke was having a really hard time since she was 5 weeks old. Always crying. I brought her to the lactation consultant and they recommended me to be gluten free, dairy free, soy free, corn free and nut free. The wraps unused to eat had corn flower. I asked about corn starch and bc it’s such a small amount they said it was fine-Just nothing made primarily of corn. Finding foods has been a challenge! Never mind foods that taste good and don’t crack and break all apart! I am entering for a chance to taste these wraps and hopefully expand my food choices to keep my baby girl happy. She’s been doing much better since I restricted my diet!

We do pretty well with foods, including creating our own recipes, but she has been waiting as patiently as possible to try these tortillas! After 3 major surgeries, I’ve had to completely change my diet to a clean, soy-free, wheat-free, gluten-free, etc. diet.   372. i love tortillas. i am having a very hard time finding gf in my town. the reason why i want to enter is i love contests and saving money. since i have to pinch every penny because my husband is disabled and i am trying to send 2 girls off to college.

  376. I would love to win, I want to try Rudi’s tortillas and no stores here carry them. I’d have to order a case! It would be a nice change from corn tortillas.

    I use their multigrain bread, it’s our favorite. The cinnamon raisin makes great french toast.

  383. I am glad you reviewed these. Its nice to have the variety and to have choices depending on what you are using them to make. I can’t wait to try them and would like to be entered in the contest. Tortillas can be used for so many different dishes, with shrimp, chicken, beef and many fresh vegetables. Just thinking of all the ideas is making me hungry and wanting them.
