Gluten Free Basil Cream Sauce

This basil cream sauce recipe is lower in fat than those made with whipping cream or evaporated milk. Yet it was so yummy on my ravioli. Basil cream sauce is naturally gluten free, however, if using a commercially grated cheese, you’ll need to ensure that is is gluten free. Make it dairy free by using milk and cheese substitutes. My husband is not a fan of cream sauces, but with the basil flavor, he even liked it on gluten free raviolis. Continue reading “Gluten Free Basil Cream Sauce”

Gluten Free Onion Gravy Recipe

I promised you all my gluten free onion gravy recipe, and here it is. Whether you leave in the onion pieces or puree until smooth, this is an easy, delicious gravy. You can make this sauce virtually any color you chose. If you wish a brown gravy, add a tiny bit of Kitchen Bouquet; use some milk for a white sauce, or leave its natural yellow color from the butter and oil. You may also use all oil instead of half butter and oil. Though butter adds flavor. This is a great onion gravy recipe without having to use any meat drippings. I used it over my Gluten Free Toad in the Hole recipe. Continue reading “Gluten Free Onion Gravy Recipe”

Gluten Free Hummus

mmuHummus is naturally gluten free, however, adding a wrong ingredient can send someone with a high gluten-intolerance into a world spin. This gluten free hummus is sweetened with pineapple juice and vinegar (due to my citrus allergies) rather than lemon juice, but feel free to use either. Hummus does not keep well. Therefore, ensure its refrigeration as soon as possible. I made some homemade gluten-free tortilla chips which was a wonderful compliment to this gluten-free hummus, as they were nice and spicy! Enjoy! Continue reading “Gluten Free Hummus”

Tri-Tip Roast Recipe with Gluten Free Gravy

I made this tri-tip roast recipe with gluten-free gravy right before I left last week to take care of my father. Now that it’s fall, it’s time for some comfort food, and with Dad terminally ill, I surely needed the comfort. Plus, the tri-tip roast was on sale and I couldn’t pass up the bargain. I like roast because it lasts for more than one meal in our house since it’s just the two of us. And this left my hubby plenty of food in the freezer to tied him over while I was gone. He found it comforting, too, since I was leaving. Not to mention, this tri-tip roast recipe is very flavorful! Enjoy. Continue reading “Tri-Tip Roast Recipe with Gluten Free Gravy”

Gluten Free Falafel with Cucumber Sauce

Falafel Lettuce Wrap

Falafel, which are popular in the Middle East, is now served all over the world as a replacement for meat, normally have a cake-like texture to them, similar to doughnuts. The texture of this gluten free falafel is something you’ve probably never experienced before, but both my husband and I really enjoyed this. I normally would have cast this recipe aside because it is not the traditional texture inside, but we enjoyed it more than the usual. It has a creamy, almost bean-like texture inside and crispy on the outside. I added a few unusual ingredients, and I am really glad that I did. I hope you enjoy my new version of gluten-free falafel. I’ve included my cucumber dipping sauce, too! Continue reading “Gluten Free Falafel with Cucumber Sauce”

Gluten Free Soy Free Soy Sauce Substitute

Image: Gluten Free Soy Free Soy Sauce Substitute

It’s difficult enough finding a gluten free soy sauce, let alone a gluten free soy free soy sauce. One does exist, though. South River Miso makes a gluten free soy free soy sauce substitute from chickpeas, Miso Tamari, chickpea flavor. It is supposed to be so good that they limit your purchase quantity because it takes at least 3 months to make. Their products are unpasteurized, living foods, rich in enzymes and beneficial microorganisms. They start shipping this year on September 15, 2011. I still need to contact them to find out if they avoid cross-contamination, though, as I see they make a barley miso, as well. I’ll call them and update this page when I find out, hopefully today or early next week. Meanwhile, you can make your own gluten free soy free soy sauce substitute. Asparagus with Gluten Free Hollandaise Sauce

As a child my mother served the family asparagus with mayonnaise on the side for dipping. I suppose it was a busy mother’s quick solution to asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Don’t get me wrong. It was delicious and I still use this myself! It hides the bitter taste of asparagus, especially for kids. However, asparagus with gluten free hollandaise sauce is such a treat! Savory Cherry Sauce – Gluten Free

Rather than using ketchup and other highly processed sauces, you can use fresh fruit to make your own sauces used for toppings like this savory cherry sauce. It is a very creative recipe which you can adjust to meet your tastes. I like to change the seasonings, wine, and type of onion used. However, in a savory cherry sauce, it is best to use a sweet onion such as green (shallots) or even red. Due to chemicals in so many of our condiments, consider adding homemade gluten free sauces to  your gluten free recipes. Continue reading “Savory Cherry Sauce – Gluten Free”

Honey Mustard Yogurt Grilled Chicken Breasts

Grilled Gluten Free Chicken Marinated in a Honey Mustard Yogurt Sauce

My husband is the griller in our family, and I am the one that creates the marinade, this time for a gluten free chicken recipe. However, I have been doing more and more grilling myself, lately. While watching my favorite cooking shows, I have learned that all of the judges look for not only taste, but grill marks! I offer an easy way to make additional, attractive grill marks below, along with a wonderful honey mustard yogurt marinade. Continue reading “Honey Mustard Yogurt Grilled Chicken Breasts”

Gluten Free Plum Barbecue Sauce and Steak Rub Recipes

Steak and Homemade Gluten Free Plum Barbecue Sauce

It’s gilling season, and a good gluten free barbecue sauce (cross-contamination free) may be hard to come by, especially a barbecue sauce without tomatoes (allergies). However, I enjoy my Gluten Free Barbecue Sauce Without Tomatoes. This time, since I had some homemade plum sauce already made, I thought it would make a great gluten free barbecue sauce substitute, along with other ingredients and a good steak rub. It came out wonderful!  I’ll use it on broiled steaks, as well. I don’t know if I will ever make a plain steak again!
