This is not only gluten free, but also a vegetarian and vegan red lentil soup recipe. I used to flavor soup with meat, but have found that spices and fresh vegetables can provide just as much flavor when added in just the correct amounts and used to compliment the existing ingredients. I normally would have added chicken, or even bacon, but the addition of smoked paprika made a wonderful substitution! Light, despite the legumes, and very flavorful! Macaroni Grill Gluten Free Menu
I absolutely loved my entree from the Ramano’s Macaroni Grill’s Allergen Menu. You can tell how careful they are in regards to gluten cross contamination, as their gluten free menu does include their french fries. Often times restaurants that not knowledge in gluten intolerance include french fries or naturally gluten free food items on their menu, not realizing that frying something in oil that has previously been used for a gluten containing food may be harmful to someone with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Just loved Macaroni Grill gluten free menu!
Update: Someone recently emailed me stating that they went to a different Macaroni Grill and became ill. They were told that they use the same water to boil wheat macaroni. So, be sure to request a separate pot of fresh water if you are gluten intolerant!
Update: Macaroni Grill no longer has a gluten free menu, but they do serve gluten free penne pasta.
NuGo Slim Gluten Free Protein Bars Review and Giveaway
If you haven’t heard of @NuGoNutrition then you’re in for a real treat! These gluten free protein bars are rich in flavor, and are very satisfying. They sent us all 3 flavors: Raspberry Truffle, Roasted Peanut, and Brownie Crunch bars to taste-test. Wow! For being low in sugar, these bars are fantastic! I’ve had their NuGo Free bars, which I’ve always enjoyed, but the NuGo Slim Bars seem to taste better to me. Perhaps it is because I’m not a big sugar person. They are made with all natural ingredients. NuGO Slim Bars are made with a natural dietary fiber, chicory root. Then, they dip them in real dark chocolate which contains antioxidants and only adds 2g of sugar, but makes all the difference in the world when it comes to the taste. NuGO Slim is the only low sugar protein bar without artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols, like maltitol, which can cause gastric distress and and an aftertaste. They are certified gluten-free, Kosher, all-natural, 2g sugar, and high in protein and fiber. Continue reading “NuGo Slim Gluten Free Protein Bars Review and Giveaway”
Gluten Free Sweet and Sour Chicken
This gluten free sweet and sour chicken recipe was adapted from a recipe in Food and Wine magazine. The sauce may be made thick or more saucy and the sauce may be pureed, if desired. My version is lower in calorie and fat, as it is skinless. Serve it atop brown or white rice. Either way, this a gourmet treat, like no other gluten free sweet and sour chicken you’ve ever had! Foods that Reacts Like Gluten – Cross Reactivity
The ‘Gluten’ Found in Coffee and Chocolate
Research tells us that only eight percent of those adult patients suffering with celiac disease experience complete healing of their gut despite maintaining a strict gluten-free diet. Sixty-five percent feel better, but only a fraction (8%) enjoy complete healing. Continue reading “Foods that Reacts Like Gluten – Cross Reactivity”
Sugar Free Gluten Free Pancakes – Almond Flax
On behalf of my paleo diet friends, I created this gluten free pancakes recipe which is grain free and sugar free. Of course, this doesn’t prevent anyone else from dowsing it with maple syrup. Another alternative, which is what I did, is to dust them with organic powdered sugar (evaporated cane juice). I get mine from Trader Joe’s. These are gluten free, sugar free, grain free, dairy free, corn free, and soy free. These are ideal for those looking for gluten free diabetic recipes, as well as paleo. Enjoy! Lean Gluten Free Country Fried Steak with Gravy
My husband has been doing most of the grocery shopping lately. When I am not specific in what I would like in the meat department there is no doubt he will show up with something I would have not chosen. He came home with cubed steak the other day, and I just couldn’t bare to just fry it plain. I don’t like cubed steak, as I’d prefer to have either my meat ground or whole – not beaten to death in order to make it tender. However, there is a correct way to tenderize tough cuts of meat like round steak. Continue reading “Lean Gluten Free Country Fried Steak with Gravy”
No Rise Egg Free Gluten Free Bread or Rolls
I had a request for an egg free gluten free bread and decided to create this one. Though it is not dairy free, you may be able to experiment with it on your own. In deciding in which direction to take, I ran across a gluten free buttermilk bread recipe which only called for starches, and no need to rise, though it contained yeast. I was very curious how this would turn out. I tweaked it a bit before experimenting and ended up with what I believe to be the most flavorful white gluten free bread yet. I did not allow it to rise, though next time I definitely will, as it is just a bit heavy, but perfect for a French loaf or rolls. I didn’t care for the heavyweight in the sliced loaf, though it is definitely kid-friendly. Fresh out of the oven, it is to die for! The French loaf crust was a bit crunchy and the crust on the rolls was soft. Enjoy!

I have been wanting to create a gluten free vanilla wafers recipe for sometime now. It’s finally here. Now, you can make that banana cream pie or banana pudding you used to make. This recipe was adapted from Food Network’s Chef Alton Brown’s recipe for Vanilla Wafers. They are just wonderful. I’m thinking of replacing my gluten free milano cookies recipe for this recipe instead. Whether you make them bite size or regular size, they are a treat. They brought back some great memories from when I was young, as well as when my kids were young. There are a couple of variations which you can check out below in the Tips area. I hope you enjoy them.
