Gluten Free Mocha Cocktail

Rather than a typical martini, which contains plenty of vodka, I created a sweeter and lighter in alcohol cocktail. I used to enjoy Godiva liqueur; however, it is not safe for those with gluten intolerance as stated on their website. Therefore, I have included a link to my homemade chocolate liqueur which I am sure you will enjoy.

Mocha Cocktail

A gluten free cocktail recipe with homemade chocolate liqueur and a bitters liqueur that is rich in cream, coffee, and if desired, ice cream.

Ingredients:

  • Cold brewed coffee (not flavored)
  • Sugar, to taste
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1/2 oz Fernet liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. Homemade Chocolate Liqueur
  • 2 - 3 oz. heavy whipping cream
  • Gluten free unsweetened cocoa powder (Ghirardelli or Hershey's)
  • Gluten free hot fudge sauce (Smucker’s)
  • Scoop of gluten free coffee or chocolate ice cream (optional)
  • Gluten free whipped cream, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Brew some coffee or make instant.
  2. Add sugar as if you were going to drink the coffee. Refrigerate and allow to cool.
  3. Add ice to a martini shaker.
  4. Add Fernet, chocolate liqueur, and cream. Shake it all up until well combined.
  5. Dip the rim of a glass into water and then into a plate of cocoa powder.
  6. Add some hot fudge sauce to the bottom of a glass in a decorative design or in stripes.
  7. Pour the cocktail mixture into the glass allowing room for coffee and/or ice cream.
  8. Add some of the sweetened coffee, to taste and ice cream, if desired.

Tips

For a nutty flavor, try substituting the Fernet liqueur for some Frangelico (hazel nut liqueur.)
