GMO Linked to Celiac Disease?

As stated in my article Celiac Disease Vaccine Slated for 2017, threeĀ peptides (proteins) have been identified as the cause of the negative reaction to gluten in those with celiac disease. The research team that discovered this was led by gastroenterologist, Robert Anderson of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Australia. Learn how this information is gluten and how GMO may be linked to celiac disease.

Science News first announced the 3 peptide discovery in theirĀ August 14th, 2010 issue of, ā€Separating wheat from chaff in celiac diseaseā€. During this time, theĀ Institute of BioAcoustic Biology and Sound Health were mid their own research, and this new announcement was like finding a needle in a haystack.

They discovered that these peptides were linked to nearly all systems in our bodies which distorts our immune system, inflames cells, and disrupt cell communication.

The three proteins that were discovered to be the problem areĀ wā€5 gliadin (wheat), gā€3 hordein (barley) and g secalins (rye). These proteins are proven to cause allergic reactions; and are derived from gluten grains.

As you may already know, many of our grains are GMO (genetically modified organism). This means that the seeds that are planted are modified. In 1986 seeds were modified and tested to prevent damage from frost. In 1996 approval was given to cultivate GMO plants in the U.S. and Canada for commercial use. Currently, they are modified so that they will be resistant to weed pesticides (weed killers).

GMO cultivated crops are used in feed for animals, as well as our produce and grains. The main crops are wheat, corn, soy and cotton. Of the three, corn is the largest, with a very high percentage of GMO crops in the U.S. Corn is found in most packaged food, as it is a cheap commodity. OneĀ megacorp is responsible for majority of our corn crops.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that in 2011,Ā U.S. farmers plan to plant 3.99 million (4.5 percent) more corn acres [88.66 million acres], 58.0 million acres of wheat, andĀ 76.6 million acres of soybean.

In terms of consumable GMO planted acres, soybeans have been the most widely adopted GE crop in the U.S., followed by corn. See chart below (though it does not represent the figures correctly that the USDA recently published, above.

U.S. Department of Agriculture, July 2011

BioAcoustic Biology discovered not only are these modified seeds possibly harming all us, but that the specific triggers (gluten sensitivities) that were identified were associated with celiac disease and many other conditions.

GMO grains contain two substances that distort the way our bodies processes two sulfur rich amino acids: proline and glutamine. Disturbances in these amino acids result in the impedance of how our bodies processĀ heavy metals, regulate genes, andĀ regulate protein function.

Their research showedĀ distortion of glutamine to be the most destructive. In order for our bodies to metabolize (process) glutamine, it needs glutamate decarboxylaseĀ (GAD), which is the most abundant neurotransmitter in the vertebrateĀ nervous system. In humans and other mammals, there are 2 types of GAD, GAD1 (affects the brain) and GAD2 (affects theĀ brain and pancreas).

This caused the Institute of BioAcoustic Biology and Sound Health to then evaluate theĀ GAD genes. They discovered that when these genes are activated, nanotransmitters (tiny transmitters) in conjunction with GAD metabolism, showed direct association withĀ celiac disease, and a host of other conditions: diabetes, autism, arthritis, Parkinson’s, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), joint pain and deterioration, hearing disorders, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticulitis (swelling and inflammation in the intestinal wall), schizophrenia, bipolar, anxiety disorders, aspartame sensitivity, MSG sensitivity, lupus, fibromyalgia, depression, seizures, brain signaling, cancer, seasonal allergies, cellular inflammation and vaccination reactions.

They also mention that glutamate is equivalent to aspartame and is part of MSG (monoā€sodiumglutamate). MSG is found in so many of our processed food and is also found in some vaccines which they feel may be the reason there is an increase in the onset of autism (brain damage, in this case) following vaccinations. AndĀ Aspartame has been implicated in multiple muscle and joint disorders.

In summary, glutamine is an amino acid found in GMO seeds which turns into plants (food) we, and animals we eat, consume. Glutamine is destroying our health! When will our government do something about it? When our voices are heard! Write yourĀ Congressman and Senators today! I just did:

Dear Congressman _____,

I write to you today to express my concern of GMO/GE food. There are several studies that correlate health damage to GMO, however, I do not depend upon those studies. It’s just common sense. Perhaps you eat organics, as well. In a recent study, it was discovered that the proteins added to GMO seeds may cause a host of illnesses. The resent study I read can be found at [The link is no longer available.]

I implore you to see to it that Americans are protected. Under the Human Rights Act we shall have a right to life. And GMO may be slowly taking that right away.

Sincerely,

Carla Spacher

  1. Nither Proline (C4O2NH7) nor Glutamine (C5O3N2H10) residues have sulfur. Sulfurous amino acid residues would be Cys and Met. The idea behind this blog is intriguing, however the scientific understanding is suspect. Likely why the description of processes is cloudy and many of you are left confused.

  2. While I found some of the information in this article helpful it basically turned into a testimonial for Russell Blaylock. He’s the doctor who believes that glutamines are destroying our health but has yet to provide any legitimate proof.

On another note, I do believe that gmo foods may be the cause that a number of people now have celiac disease including myself. However, I do not see anything wrong with naturally occurring glutamines and they have been consumed for thousands of years with no adverse effects. To say all glutamines are bad is basically stating you have proof that foods like miso or seaweed are bad for us, when the reverse is true. We know, for example, that miso protects us from radiation and it is a longevity food. Do we start swearing off of all fermented foods on the advice on a quack doctor who has created his own line of synthetic drugs to combat the so-called poisoning he claims is occurring from glutamines while ignoring the other factors such as heavy metal toxicity from mercury tainted fish and dental fillings.

My advice to you all is to do your own research on glutamines and skip Blaylock. He has no proof that glutamines are destroying anyone’s health. I consider him a snake oil salesman with expensive taste in medicine. Just to subscribe to his newsletter costs money. What does that tell you? He gives nothing for free. Be suspicious. Be very suspicious.

  3. I really enjoyed this because first of all i am obsessed with researching GMO’s and their terrible effects on everything and everyone; and also my mom was diagnosed with celiacs disease about a year and a half ago. But i’m a little confused, on what is the cause of the problem is here? You mentioned ‘glutamine’ ‘glutamate’ and ‘GAD’ as all having a reaction to the GMO-celiac relation but i didnt completely understand what you are trying to show as being the root problem? if you could clarify for me that would be awesome!! and thank you so much for posting this and continuting to spread the word about the harm of GMO’s!!!

  4. I just wanted to contribute to the different sites that are actively pursuing this cause. I get their newsletter often.
Oh, by the way, thanks for you site.

  5. Good job! I understand, a little. I think sending it to our congressmen is a good idea, but doubt little attention can be paid, with the crisis going on at the moment. Awareness is a start, and spreading the word. Thanks so very much.

  6. Sent to me via email (with permission to publish):

“Hi Carla, Thank you for the article on GMO’s and Celiac Disease. I have long suspected GMO’s as being a huge part of the health problems in our country. The article states all those other neurological diseases may also indeed be from GMO foods. Since diagnosed with Celiac Disease, and learning to read labels and cook so much, I have tried as best as possible to eat a more pure diet excluding GMO’s, chemicals, MSG, pesticides, etc. Too many people in middle age are now suffering from all forms of autoimmune and other diseases not recognized by our current medical professionals. All neurological problems seem to be on the rise too. Our previous generation seemed to be more healthy until they reached their seventies. This is not true for my generation. More and more people I know feel awful, and current Western Medicine seems to be way behind in diagnosing and treating these diseases. I will contact my congressman as you suggested. I also support the Organic Association on their action alerts as well. Thank you for this most imformative article.” from C.D. (ironically CD=Celiac Disease)

  7. Did you really just say that autism can be caused by vaccinations ? It has taken over a decade to reverse the fraudulent research of Andrew Wakefield and here you go, continuing to spread misinformation.

Considering your argument, wouldn’t it make more sense to blame the consumption of GMO grains during a child’s development as a possible cause to autism?

    1. Thank you Caley! I was just going to mention the fallacy of vaccinations causing autism! It is a crime how many children got horribly ill, and died in some cases, over Wakefield’s FAKED research.

      1. Ridiculous. Of course Wakefield was crucified and denounced. Do you really think the medical establishment and the pharmaceutical industry will let a pesky little doctor threaten their billion dollar enterprises? You can side with Goliath. I’ll put my faith in David.

  8. Thanks for the article. I’ve suspected we would soon discover the health affects of GMO’s. Unfortunately, GMO’s are already cross-pollenating even organic crops. I’m afraid science has opened Pandora’s Box. The FDA currently refuses to have foods labeled as “GMO”. This is probably due to fact it is an impossible task. When a bakery orders flour, the wheat may have been from multiple sources, some GMO and some not. The Star Link GMO corn did bring the issue to the forefront for the FDA. It was approved for animal feed but “somehow” ended up in our food chain. Star Link corn remains stable in the gastric system and has a risk of entering the blood stream thus becoming an allergy concern. Unfortunately, the FDA appears to be caving in to the corporate interests rather than the people’s interests. I would also urge people to ask their congress person and senator to require the head of the FDA not be ex-executives of Monsanto and other biotech corporations as is the case in the current and past.

  9. Interesting article, but it seems now that also soy beans are harmful for us with celiac disease. This is new for me and I wonder if this type of soy bean is used in Europe.

  10. Stop, please! You got it all wrong! The original study in Science magazine that relates the peptides with celiac disease, has nothing to do with GMOs!!!! I’m not saying that GMOs aren’t dangerous, but this particular study refers to peptides that are naturally present in ALL wheat!
You’re spreading misinformation that will come back to bite your ass, when people realize that the basis of your argument is wrong.
I’m sorry, I don’t want to tear down your enthusiasm, but you have nothing. What the study proves is that wheat in its natural form contains allergens they finally manage to identify. Nothing really new.

    1. Joan, I understand the original article has nothing to do with GMO’s. Have you read the study: “STUDY ā€©FINDS ā€©LINKā€© BETWEEN ā€©GMOā€™s ā€©AND ā€©CURRENT ā€©HEALTH ā€©CAREā€©CRISIS” at http://www.soundhealthinc.com/pdf/gmo.pdf ? I think you’re missing some information.

“This may be one of the decadeā€™s most important ā€œconnectionsā€ between food and genetics. By showing the frequency relationships among substances normally found in healthy people, you have confirmed that the
potential for GMO harm is very Real.” ~ Ralph Fucetola, Natural Solutions Foundation

  11. I think you really have something here by writing to the congressmen. You should look at a website called change.org that I recently discovered. You should submit this. People can petition by one click of a button which makes the likelihood of other people joining the cause and contacting their congressmen a lot higher.

  12. What a timely and important story! I am so grateful you’ve put so much work into pulling this all together for us. At the same time, I was just sent this article, that with the news combined, make me very afraid for our species. Check out this post at .
