In preparation for my tomorrow’s blog post on a gluten free appetizer recipe, I thought I’d share my homemade ricotta cheese recipe. It’s not only trick or treat time for the kids, but us adults desire treats, as well. Imagine sweetened cream cheese, pumpkin, and graham crackers. What do you get? Pumpkin cheesecake! Then wrap them in chocolate and you get heaven in ball! Alternatively, instead of using ground gluten free graham crackers you can ground chocolate cookies. You can make these pumpkin cheesecake chocolates elegant by topping with candy pearls, drops of colored chocolate or another variety of chocolate, or dip the tops in a second color of chocolate. For the kids you can make them colorful by adding sprinkles, jimmies, etc. Or do a combination of both. Enjoy! Continue reading “Gluten Free Pumpkin Cheesecake Filled Chocolates”

Can Your Skin Have Celiac Disease?

One of my pet peeves is the way skin conditions are treated in this country. I cannot state what happens elsewhere, although I fear it’s similar, but here in the US, dermatologists (skin doctors) tend to treat skin the way one would a stain on one’s shirt. In other words, they direct all their attention to trying to make it disappear, the rash, the dryness, the burning, etc.

Why is that an error? The skin is an organ. In fact, it’s our largest organ. As an organ, it is most closely related to the digestive tract, another very large and very important organ. Continue reading “Dermatitis Herpetiformis: Learn why some react to topical gluten and others do not”

Colorful Gluten Free Quinoa Salad

iMAGE: Quinoa Salad Vegetables

I’m not one big on quinoa salad, as I usually enjoy my food either cold or hot. And most of the gluten free quinoa salad recipes I’ve tried are not flavorful enough for me. I finally got this recipe right, though. The pineapple really makes this dish flavorful, so much that I didn’t even need a dressing. You can always top it with lemon, though, for even more flavor, or even your favorite salad dressing. In addition, if you replace the corn with other vegetables, you can makes this dish not only gluten free, but corn-free and grain-free. I hope you enjoy this recipe, as it brings a lot of color to the table. Continue reading “Colorful Gluten Free Quinoa Salad”

Is Pantene Gluten Free?

Image: Pantene Shampoo

Perhaps off the subject of gluten free cooking, however, after all that hard work in the kitchen, you may be wondering, as one of my readers did, whether your hair products are gluten free. While I personally do not have any problem with many hair products, I did know that Costco’s Kirkland brand is gluten free. I do not have to use gluten free products, but I like to use them whenever possible. Because what we put on our skin is absorbed into the blood stream, I like to play it safe.
