New Gluten Free Products 2011

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to attend the Natural Foods Expo West trade show. Not only does the show include gluten free products, but vegan, raw, organic and other non-food natural products. It was wonderful to see all the new gluten free products from the gluten free manufacturers, as well as the additions from longstanding manufacturers who added gluten free products to their lines.

It was amazing how many newbies needed to be educated on gluten free including testing, certification and more. I was more than happy to help out in this area.

The list below are products that are new to the market or coming soon. I hope you find this list useful!

Natural Products Trade Show

Aunt Gussie”s new gluten-free line

Aunt Gussie’s has been in business for over 30 years and they have come out with a gluten free line, made in a dedicated gluten free facility, as well as Kosher Parve and GFCO Certified. What especially caught our attention was the sugar-free cookies. They cookies and brownies are not only gluten free, but dairy-free and vegan. Their gluten free cookies which are sweetened come in Mini Chip, Double Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip, and Chocolate Spritz (chocolate cookie with chocolate chips).

Their sugar-free versions come in Vanilla Spritz and Chocolate Chip & Almonds.

See their link above for ingredients and nutrition facts.

Bakery On Main: new chewy granola bars

Bakery On Main not only has great granola and granola bars, but now they have new chewy granola bars! They are individually wrapped and very soft, chewy and flavorful!  So far, I’ve tasted the Cinnamon Apple flavor and the Chocolate Almond and was very delighted. I love anything sweet and chewy! I can’t wait to try the Peanut Butter & Jelly flavor! That’s just got to be awesome! I’ll report back when I do. I just cannot possibly taste all of the samples we were given at once.

All Bakery On Main premium gluten free granola products are;

  • Gluten free, dairy-free, casein-free, trans fat-free, cholesterol-free and GMO-free!
  • Certified gluten free
  • Kosher OU Parve
  • All Natural
  • Low in Sodium and saturated fat

Dagoba Organic Chocolate

Products: chocolate bars and squares, drinking chocolate, baking chocolate

I sampled a few of their organic chocolate squares which are just wonderful! I believe they are the best chocolate I have ever had! Most of their flavors are very unique, but they do carry traditional flavors, as well. However, they do contain soy, but their soy is non-GMO.  I know some people do not like to consume soy because of its estrogen-like properties, but for those that just avoid it because of GMO, you’re in for a real treat!

Made on dedicated gluten free lines.

Their flavors are awesome: Eclipse, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Super Fruit (dark chocolate with acai, currants, Goji berries and rich), New Moon (rich dark chocolate), Lavendar Blueberry, Conacado (dark chocolate from the Dominican Republic), Beaucoup (pure vanilla, dried cranberries and cherries blended with dark chocolate), Lemon Ginger, Nibs, Mint, Roseberry, Chai, Hazelnut and my favorite…Xocolati (dark chocolate with chilies and nibs)! At first your mouth is a pleasantly surprised with the chili flavor, then the back of your throat feels the kick!  Just awesome! This gives me a great idea for a new recipe which I cannot wait to try!

Enjoy Life Foods

  • Double Chocolate Crunch Granola Nut & Gluten Free Granola
  • Mega Chunks: dairy -free, nut-free and soy-free (large semi-sweet chunks of chocolate versus their dairy-free soy-free chocolate chips)
  • Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Vanilla Honey Grahams
  • Crunchy Sugar Crisp
  • Crunchy Double Chocolate Cookies

When at their booth I mentioned that I noticed that they added more chocolate chips to their chewy chocolate chip cookies and they, too, were very proud of that. They mentioned that they added a bit of salt, too. Their flour base is sorghum flour, which I adore. It’s nice to have a cookie made with more of whole grain. My personal stock was at home. They gave me an entire box which really made my day!

Their Mega Chunks contain: evaporated cane juice, natural chocolate liquor (non-alcoholic) and non-dairy cocoa butter. They would be awesome in chocolate chip cookies! They appear to have been in the shape of a large pencil, cut in half length-wise and then cut in various lengths about 1/3″ – 3/4″ long. Hopefully that gives you an idea of their shape. Their chocolates are the only gluten free, dairy-free chocolate that I know about.

The Double Crunch Crunch Granola is not very sweet, which some of us prefer. It has a bit of a bitter, toasted flavor to them, closer to dark chocolate…very unique!

Flamous Falafel Chips

All natural falafel  flavored chips; great for hummus dip and other dips; a good source of protein and fiber; low in sodium; and full of flavor and crunch!

Gluten free, wheat-free dairy-free, lactose-free, trans fat-free, cholesterol-free, MSG-free, hydrogenated ol-free, GMO-free, preservative-free, artificial coloring and flavoring-free!

Their products are Certified Gluten Free and their entire manufacturing facility is also gluten free.

Another product with tomato which I so wish I could have because they taste great!

Ingredients: Non GMO corn, one or more of the following non GMO whole heans (chickpeas, fava beans, black beans or pinto beans) one or more of the following oils (medium-high oleic expeler pressed safflower/sun-flower) spices (inclduing turmeric) dehydrated vegetables (beet, onion, garlic, spinach, carrot, red bell pepper, tomato, green bell pepper, sea salt).

Glutino’s new products

Glutino has partnered up with Europe’s best selling gluten free bread (white), Genius, and is bringing it to the U.S! I love it and it was very flavorful, and of course, a wonderful texture!

I also tasted their new and improved yogurt and chocolate covered pretzels. What a treat!

They have also improved their breakfast bars.

They carry mixes, bakery items, snacks, cereal and even frozen meals! Check out all of their products at the above link!

Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chews

We often reach for sugar when we need energy, but Honey Stingers has a more nutritious sweet treat which will give you a boost of energy and they are all organic, contains protein and fiber naturally derived from 100% organic tapioca syrup and honey. They are the softest chews I have ever had! I sampled the Cherry Blossom flavor and couldn’t put them down. They also come in Fruit Smoothie, Orange Blossom and Pomegranate Passion Fruit.  Since they are loaded with honey and Vitamin C, it is just what the doctor ordered! Not all of their products are gluten free, so just check out their chews for now.

Manufactured in a gluten free facility. Certified Organic ingredients. Gluten free, dairy-free, GMO-free, trans fat-free and no partially hydrogenated oils. 100% RDA Vitamin C along with 1g protein and 1g fibre per package.

No mention whether made on gluten free lines, or anything about testing.

Larabar

I have heard so many good things about Larabar bars from those on a gluten free diet, that I just had to stop by their booth to taste them for myself. I had their carrot cake bar which is tastes good and also healthy! My next sample awaiting for me is their Blueberry Muffin bar. Can’t wait!

Their new flavors are:

Carrot Cake

Blueberry Muffin

Chocolate Chip Brownie

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

Metromint: new product

Mary makes awesome crackers, cookies and stix and twigs in gourmet flavors.  She has added something new, “Just the Crumbs”! They take their cracker crumbs in the different flavors and sell exactly that, just the crumbs. I was given a jar of the original flavor and asked to make their Gluten Free Apple Crisp. Stay tuned in for this recipe and my review!  You can also use their crumbs in breaded recipes. So crunchy! They are vegan, as well as certified gluten free! All made in a dedicated gluten free, nut-free certified organic and kosher facility!

See all of Mary’s gluten free products at the link above. Her cookies are organic!

Metromint Sugar-free Flavored Bottled Water

Metromint carries mint flavored bottled water combined with another flavor, but without any sweetener! I had a bottle of their chocolatemint water and found that just as the label stated it cooled my entire body! What great news for those living in hot areas and women in menopause with hot flashes! I’m looking at carrying it in my gluten free gift basket lines, perhaps in the chocolate lover’s basket and perhaps a new one, “Welcome to Menopause!”

Made on gluten free lines.

Check out all of their flavors at the above link!

Raw Revolution Organic Bars New and Old

Pamelas’s Products make awesome cookies (regular and organic), cakes and baking mixes.  But now they have added a new product to their line.

We made a trip to the Pamela’s Products booth on Saturday to find out what was new and then again on Sunday, just to have another bite of their wonderful White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake! It is the best cheesecake I have ever had. It has a light crust, not heavy or thick and is so rich and flavorful!  It comes in 2 sizes: 3 inch and 6 inch rounds.

Besides the above flavor, their cheesecakes come in New York, Zesty Lemon, Hazelnut, and Agave Sweetened New York.  Other cakes include Chocolate Fudge Cake with Chocolate Frosting and Coffee Cake with Nut Topping.

Newest Product:

Besides their cheesecake, we were given samples to take home of their newest product, “Whenever Bars”. They come in Oat Cranberry Almond (which I love), Oat Blueberry Lemon and Oat Raisin Walnut Spice. They are soft, chewy and very flavorful! I was Twittering about them and someone else had just finished their Blueberry Lemon and agreed that they are a great bar!  Look for them on shelves soon!

riceworks snacks

Gluten free • vegan • wheat-free, corn-free, soy-free, trans-fat-free, cholesterol-free and fefined sugar-free

If you are into nutrition and taste, you’ll have to try a Raw Rev 100! Their 100 calorie organic food bar that is just awesome! You open it up and see the natural oils dripping from the bar. It is green and live! If you’re not into eating raw foods you may think it will not taste good, but quite the contrary. It was wonderful! I could taste the natural oils, cashew and almonds throughout the bar! It is made with Spirulina, a microscopic blue-green algae and also contains agave syrup, dates and sprouted flax. Just a great food bar! The 2 sample flavors I was given were their Spriulina & Cashew and Chocolate & Coconut, but I have only tasted the Cashew one so far. As stated above, loved it!

Their new (non-100) bar flavors: Lemon Dew, Apple Cinnamon, and Tropical Banana.  They contain sprouted flax, hemp protein, sunflower seeds and 8 super green foods!

Rudi’s Bakery: brown rice chips

These chips are awesome! What great flavors! My favorite is the Tangy BBQ! They are addicting! I found out later that they contain tomatoes and corn treated with lime. I’m allergic to citrus and tomatoes so they’re off my list, but I highly recommend them for their flavor and crunch. Great choice if you eat corn.

  • Tangy BBQ
  • Sweet Chili
  • Parmesan & Sundried Tomatoes
  • Salsa Fresca
  • Sea Salt

Contains whole grain brown rice and massa corn flour (corn flour treated with lime), as well as other ingredients.

See the above link for ingredients and nutritional values.

Rudi’s Bakery: 3 new products

Rudi already makes an awesome textured bread! Their white bread is the closest to real bread I have found thus far!

  • Gluten Free Multigrain Hamburger Buns – a soft texture and is made with natural ingredients with a hint of molasses and honey. Just awesome! We only tasted them toasted with chicken, so not sure how the texture compares to other buns.
  • Gluten Free Multigrain Hot Dog Rolls – a combination of flaxseed, sunflower seeds and cornmeal, increasing the content of fiber, which gluten free diets need!
  • Original Pizza Crusts – a thin crispy crust, natural ingredients.

Products are certified gluten free by GFCO, made on dedicated gluten free lines, produced on separate days.

Think Thin: new product

You are probably aware that Think Thin Protein Bars are gluten free, but they have other products, as well:

Crunch BarsBites 100 Calories Snack, and their newest product…Golden Clusters!

When asked whether their products were certified gluten free I was told that they were not, but that they test their products for gluten and that they usually test under 10ppm (parts per million), and the latest test showed 5ppm.  These meet or exceed certified gluten free products (depending upon which organization is testing.)

Think Thin’s Golden Clusters contain nothing artificial. They are natural clusters of fruit and nuts in 3 flavors:

  • Blueberry Noni
  • Cranberry Acai
  • Chocolate & Sea Salt

Rich in antioxidants, good source of protein and fiber!

Think Thin products contain soy.

Udi’s New Products

I have been enjoying Udi’s gluten free breads and pizza crusts. They have several new products lately including their cinnamon raisin bagels, but it doesn’t stop there.

They now have gluten free chocolate chip cookies! They were first released to test in the Kroeger stores, a major grocery chain mainly in the Mid West. Then they will be released to Ralph stores, a major grocery chain located in Southern California and also the largest subsidiary of the Kroeger Co.

With a shelf-life of 10 days the product will need to be placed in your stores refrigerator or freezer section which may change the texture. Udi’s expect that their cookies will do much better in stores which have a fast turnover, such as specialty stores. Nevertheless, it’s Udi’s!  It must be good! My husband tasted them and thoroughly enjoyed them!  Hopefully, you will find them on your own grocery store’s shelf soon!

Though I did not taste them, they also have new gluten free hamburger buns and hot dog buns; and 2 new ancient grain breads packed with protein, fiber, and omega-3’s. It is reported to be as delicious as the rest of their products!

For a list of safe gluten free ingredients and products which I add to on a regular basis see Gluten Free Product List.

  3. Hi!

We’re a brand new brand of gluten-free roasted chickpeas! We didn’t exhibit this year, but walked around sampling our product, and they’re a big hit. Our chickpeas are roasted to a tender crunch, and coated in addicting flavors. Unlike many gluten-free snacks, they’re rich in nutrition, a great natural source of plant protein and fiber. They’re Kosher and low fat, and have a naturally low glycemic index. We’re just starting to get into retail, but you can find us at Amazon.com, and on our website, http://www.thegoodbean.com.

    1. Thanks for sharing your product, Sarah! Is the product made in a gluten-free facility? If not, is it made on gluten-free lines? If not, is the product tested for gluten? If so, what percentage has it been tested at: under 20ppm, 10ppm, etc.? Thanks so much in advance!

      Carla
