One of the nice things about Frito Lay’s chips that they have a few gluten-free varieties. Well, Frito Lay is getting on the all-natural bandwagon! Find out more below, including a list of which Lay’s chips are currently gluten-free.
Wall Street Journal’s article, Can This Chip Be Saved?, quoted Tim Fink, director of Frito-Lay’s seasonings team, “If the ingredient isn’t in a consumer’s cupboard, can we get it off the label?”

Perhaps you have already heard earlier this year that the new U.S. Dietary Guidelines call for lower sodium content in our food. Manufacturers are being urged to cut back on salt and MSG. Frito Lay will not be advertising the lower sodium nor the “all natural” because they do not wish consumers to equate their products for something that may “taste like cardboard”.
I love Lay’s Sweet Southern Heat Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips! Lucky for me they do not include any tomatoes, which so many other barbecued flavored chips contain.
Keep in mind as they change ingredients you’ll really need to read those labels to ensure they are still gluten-free!

Thanks so much for this list and the great chips you make. We have always had to pay so much for such a small amount of gluten free chips for him. This makes it easier on shopping for snacks.
