Gluten Free Sausage and Peppers Sub

On a cold winter day, you tend to reach or crave for comfort food. What better comfort food is there besides a gluten free sausage and peppers sub on amazing gluten free bread? Schar offers some amazing products. This recipe can be made even simpler if you purchase ready-made pizza sauce. However, you can make homemade (see link for recipe). I prefer the homemade with its Italian seasonings. Either way, it’s delicious. My husband never passes this sandwich up.

Gluten Free Italian Sausage and Peppers Sub

This is a treat for lunch or dinner when you're at home. However, it is just as easy and delicious to wrap this gluten free Italian sausage and peppers sub for a brown bag lunch.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to high broil. If using baguettes, slice loaves in half and then again in half, length-wise; and set aside.
  2. Add the sausage to a 12-inch skillet and cook until brown. Using a slotted spoon, transfer sausage to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  3. Remove most of the grease from the skillet and add onion and bell peppers. Saute on low heat until tender, about 10 minutes.
  4. Spread the pizza sauce on both sides of the bread and place on a baking sheet. Top half of the loaves with sausage and the other half with the sauteed vegetables. Top with cheese and place on the middle rack of your oven until the cheese melts. Serve immediately.
