Alternative to Royal Icing for Gingerbread House

An alternative to royal icing for gingerbread house. The clear glue that easy and inexpensive to make. In addition, it's egg-free!

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 Tablespoons light corn syrup (or gluten free brown rice syrup - Lundberg brand)

Instructions:

  1. Place the sugar, water, and corn syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until granules melt. Increase heat to high and boil until it reaches 240ºF or about 7 minutes. Pour into a bowl and set aside to cool to room temperature.
  2. When gluing gingerbread house pieces together, if you have trimmed the edges, they will be porous. Therefore, they will need two coats. Apply one coat and allow to dry at least halfway and then apply another coat before joining with another piece. It takes a bit longer to dry, but they stick together quite well.
