This rich chocolate frosting is another recipe from my upcoming cookbook, Carla’s Best 125 Gluten-Free Recipes. There are two ingredients that make this frosting richer than traditional buttercream frosting recipes. Taste-testers loved it!
Rich Chocolate Frosting
A rich gluten free chocolate frosting that you can adjust the thickness according to your needs.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter or gluten-free margarine (Smart Balance or Earth Balance)
- 1-1/3 cup gluten-free Dutch processed cocoa powder
- 2/3 cup (10 tablespoons) heavy whipping cream (or coconut milk for dairy-free)
- 4 cups confectioners' sugar
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter or gluten-free margarine
- 1/3 cup gluten-free Dutch processed cocoa powder
- 2-1/2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For a 2-Layer Cake:
For a 9-inch Cake Filling:
Instructions:
- Whip the butter in the bowl of your mixer on medium speed until creamy. Mix in the cocoa powder thoroughly. Beat in the whipping cream. Sift in the confectioners’ sugar a little at a time; beat until fluffy. Add the vanilla and blend on low speed. Set frosting aside.
- Use to frost your favorite gluten-free cakes.
Tips
Add additional confectioners’ sugar as desired to create a thicker frosting.
