Microwaved Chocolate Dulce de Leche Recipe
The easiest and quickest way to make chocolate dulce de leche. Use the microwave! This recipe differs from others in many ways. It makes a rich, creamy, soft caramel.
Ingredients:
- 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup gluten free semi-sweet chocolate chips (Nestle)
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
- Place the sweetened condensed milk in a 3-quart microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on and off, on high, for 6 minutes 30 seconds (based on a 1200 watt microwave), turning the microwave off when the milk rises to the top of the bowl. Allow to settle completely down and continue to microwave. Continue with this process until the entire 6 minutes 30 seconds is complete. Feel free to stir as you go.
- Immediately remove the bowl from the microwave and sprinkle in the baking soda and stir to evenly distribute. This creates air bubbles so that the mixture stays soft.
- While still hot, stir in the butter and chocolate chips until it all melts. If the butter is too cold, the mixture will seize up and you'll need to warm it up in the microwave. Warming can be done at any point. Reheating for 10 seconds at a time, on high, works well.
- Store in a mason jar covered tightly for up to 3 months.
